Reliable connectivity starts with choosing equipment that fits the installation. For integrators planning cellular deployments, antenna selection deserves a place alongside the router, power requirements, and mounting location.

Teltonika offers antenna options for cellular, Wi-Fi, and GNSS applications. Understanding the differences can help you plan a solution for fixed sites, vehicles, and industrial environments.

## Why an LTE antenna might not work for 5G

An LTE antenna may fit a 5G router’s connector without covering all the bands needed for the deployment. Reviewing frequency support is especially useful when upgrading existing equipment.

Teltonika’s PR1KC640 5G combo roof antenna brings cellular MIMO, GNSS, and Wi-Fi functions into one housing. This format gives integrators a consolidated mounting option for installations using multiple radios.

## MIMO: Support the Router’s Antenna Configuration

MIMO uses multiple antenna paths to support wireless performance. Matching the antenna configuration to the router allows the installation to take advantage of those capabilities.

Connect the required antenna elements to their designated ports and follow the manufacturer’s spacing and placement guidance. For combo units, review the number of elements inside the housing against the router’s connection requirements.

## GNSS and Wi-Fi: Plan for Each Radio

GNSS antennas receive satellite signals and need an open view of the sky. Active models include an amplifier; its gain in dB should not be compared directly with antenna gain in dBi.

For local wireless access, Teltonika’s dual-band Wi-Fi antenna supports applications using 2.4 and 5 GHz. Confirm both bands when selecting antennas for a dual-band router.

## Antenna Connectors: SMA vs. RP-SMA

Matching the antenna connector to the router port is an important part of installation. SMA and RP-SMA connectors look similar, but their center pin and socket arrangements differ.

On Teltonika routers, SMA is commonly used for cellular and GNSS connections, while RP-SMA is commonly used for Wi-Fi. Combo antennas may include both connector types, with separate leads for each radio.

Check each antenna lead against the corresponding labeled router port before connecting it. Confirming connector compatibility during equipment selection helps avoid installation delays and mismatched connections.

## Find the Right Fit with Our Team

The right antenna depends on the router, radio requirements, and conditions at the installation site. Teltonika’s antenna options give integrators several ways to address those needs.

Whether you’re upgrading an existing connection or planning a new deployment, our team can help you explore the options. [Contact our team](https://go.streakwave.com/tell-us-about-your-teltonika-project) to discuss the right fit for your next Teltonika project.
