Multi-dwelling units, including apartments, condos, student housing, and multi-building residential communities, need more than basic connectivity. These environments often support hundreds of residents, staff members, devices, and shared facility systems across one connected property. From resident Wi-Fi and smart appliances to access control, intercoms, surveillance, and unified communications, every part of the network needs to work together reliably.
Grandstream offers a full-stack solution for MDU deployments by combining Wi-Fi access points, managed switches, facility access devices, IP PBX platforms, and unified communications endpoints under one management platform. With Grandstream Device Management System, or GDMS, property managers and IT administrators can configure, update, monitor, and troubleshoot Grandstream devices from a centralized cloud portal.
Reliable Wi-Fi and Switching for High-Density Properties
A strong MDU deployment starts with the network backbone. Grandstream GWN Wi-Fi access points and managed switches help support resident connectivity, common-area devices, and building-wide IP endpoints.
Grandstream access points support Private Pre-Shared Key, or PPSK, which allows residents to connect to the same building-wide SSID while keeping each unit’s traffic separated into its own VLAN. This helps simplify deployment by reducing the need for a separate SSID or router for every unit while improving privacy and network organization.
For switching, Grandstream offers Layer 2, Layer 2++, Layer 3, and Layer 3 aggregation options. These switches can support access-level connectivity for Wi-Fi APs and endpoints while also helping manage VLAN routing, traffic optimization, and network security across larger properties.
Communication and Facility Management
Grandstream solutions can also support building entry, intercom, paging, and resident communication. A UCM6300 IP PBX or SoftwareUCM platform can centralize communication between GDS facility access devices, GSC speakers and intercoms, in-unit IP phones, and staff endpoints.
With GDS smart IP video door stations, visitors can call a unit or reception desk, share a live video feed, and request access. Residents can also use Grandstream Wave on their smartphone to answer calls and open doors without requiring an extra in-unit device.
Centralized Management with GDMS
For MDUs with many devices deployed across multiple floors or buildings, centralized management is essential. GDMS allows administrators to manage Grandstream devices from one cloud-based platform and apply template configurations in batches to reduce setup time.
By bringing networking, facility access, communications, and cloud management together, Grandstream gives MDU deployments a scalable foundation for reliable connectivity and simplified property management.
